Itteki : Hitomi Shimpei
From dusk till dawn
one night, the earth shook greatly round and round
he finally let the giant, who he had been hiding, free into the town
the lights of the town were out
because that creature trampled the power plant down
without a doubt, this conviction inside of me
sooner or later, I'll hear it that sad sad rustling voice
tingling the insides of my bones that deep low rustling voice
So, what should we do? In such a night, what could we do?
when they say nothing will work,
I decide to take it on, selfishly
stealing away self-powered-generators, I've stolen piles, and piles
I sneak into the amusement park; the merry-go-round looks as though it could move
surely, the giant will find it likeable
with a sad melody, the carousel glitters in the dark
so just like in the night, the carousel will be attractive
because like the bugs who swarm around streetlights, the giant and the man will find the carousel just as attractive
I had met him once
it was when I was a child, and I had yet to see everything
the elevator wouldn't move; and on the rooftop of a high-rise apartment,
sitting on top of the water tank
was he---singing the Carpenters to himself in a falsetto voice
"every sha-la-la-la every wo-o-wo-o
still shines
as a young boy who doesn't know ugliness; as a young boy who has not felt sadness
in this water storage tank I save my tears
and when it fills with water, I will let out the giant I've hidden
sooner or later, I'll hear it that sad sad rustling voice
tingling the insides of my bones that deep low rustling voice
every shing-a-ling-a-ling..."
the right evening, lights lit in the merry-go-round
all laughter is hidden in the amusement park until the moment
it changes into a methodical figure, displaying itself
then as it gets dark, it hides everyone's words
lovers silently begin to grow cruel
with everyone's quiet feelings, there is just a little doki doki
and then they are lost to the merry-go-round's sad melody
but in no time the death of beautiful times is rung
soon the feeling of sadness pours down
still the night continues
still it wants to exist here
Don't you think, and thus, until dawn, [the carousel] will forever be lit
even the giant will find it lovely
the carousel, with a sad melody, glitters in the dark
so just like in the night, the carousel will be attractive
because like the bugs who swarm around streetlights,
the giant, the man, myself, you, the girl who spends her days in books,
the boy who lost his elder sister, the children who were not loved by their parents
and those who haven't found what they've been looking for
will all, surely, find [the carousel] lovely
Still shines
