Relay Interviews [Squeeze Spirits] : 4ge x Towa
Relay: 4ge x Towa : Part 2 [translator's notes in brackets [] ]
'Objective Fatima / Subjective Fatima'
4ge: Well after the band that we were in together broke up [ lure + selene], I really didn't think we'd still see each other anymore or anything.
SS: Did you keep up contact during that period?
Towa: Sometimes we would. But it wasn't anything like every day or anyth--
4ge: (interrupts) You called me everyday!
Towa: ..... I did, huh (small laugh).
4ge: Everyday, "how are you?" you'd ask.
Towa: You liar!
4ge: "About Fatima ~" you'd say.
Towa: (to the interviewer in a small voice) He's making this up.
SS: (laughs)
4ge: Everyday you'd call! We're good friends!
Towa: .... We are good friends (laughs).
SS: I think I can tell you're good friends (laughs).
4ge: You'd mail me too.
Towa: I did not!
4ge: You'd say in email, 'good morning!'
Towa: ahahahaha (laughs). I did, huh (laughs).
SS: Towa-san, you keep going back and forth with this (small laugh).
Towa: I did it! Everyday I would mail with 'good morning!' and 'good night!'
SS: ........ Okay, so that's what happened (laughs).
4ge & Towa: (laugh)
SS: Well then, after you joined Fatima, what do you think changed the most about yourselves?
4ge: ...... (thinks)
Towa: (faces 4ge) Some things have changed.
4ge: What? Tell me, tell me?
Towa: Clothes!
4ge: Ahh, clothes (laughs). But not really, that's not something that changed just because of joining Fatima .... What could have changed? Towa, what do you think has changed about me?
Towa: Hmm .... ah, the songs you make have changed!
4ge: Oh really?! ...... Ah, they've changed, have they.
Towa: The style of your songs has changed. I don't know if it's because you joined the band, but since you joined the band you've started listening to a variety of music, or maybe it's also because of the way that you play the guitar. I'm not sure why.
4ge: Ah, there is that! After joining Fatima I've really wanted to play the guitar. Before joining, I really didn't have that feeling that I just wanted to play it (laughs). I also started recording after joining Fatima. I constantly have my guitar with me now, and not just to practice.
SS: Is it something that attracted you?
4ge: I just feel like I've come to understand how enjoyable the guitar is.
SS: That's wonderful! And how about you, Towa-san?
Towa: Well, obviously the music that I listen to has expanded. I mean it's still a narrow selection, but compared to what it was before, it's really grown. Also .... Fatima has a lot of songs in which the rhythm changes, and I believe that the rhythm patterns have increased. But from here on out, as far as what I myself can offer to the band, I think that I'll steadily find more rhythm patterns.
SS: With your music selection growing, surely there'll be some new discoveries to make.
Towa: That's right. From here on out, I've got to keep going! It is a severe world (laughs). And I think of each day like it's an audition!!
SS: What a great speech (laughs).
Towa: Well it was a little bit of a lie (laughs). But I really do want to catch up ... I have a long ways to go. The wall is very high (laughs).
SS: 4ge-san, from your point of view, do you think that Towa-san has changed?
4ge: Hmm .... You changed the cigarettes you smoke, right?
Towa: No, I didn't change them (laughs).
4ge: You changed your cell phone, right?
Towa: I did change that, I did (laughs).
4ge: You changed where you live, right?
Towa: I did change that (laughs).
(they continue on like this)
SS: Well a lot has changed, hasn't it! (laughs)
Towa: It really has. 4ge-kun knows everything. He knows everything about me (laughs).
SS: Well, aside from material things, has anything else about Towa-kun changed?
4ge: Ah no, I don't really think Towa has changed that much. As far as when we're performing, he's gotten skilled. But as far as who Towa is, he hasn't changed that much. But I wouldn't want him to change from what I remember. He hasn't changed especially.
SS: Well then, lastly, what would you two like to do with Fatima from here on out?
4ge: This is an individual wish, but I'd like to be in a magazine outside of the visual kei ones ... I'd like to be in Guitar Magazine or Young Guitar. With the band, what will be will be I suppose.
Towa: My wish is also an individual one, but I'd like to play various drums. 4ge-kun also said it but it'd be great to expand outside of visual kei style. For example, jazz drumming, bossa nova, samba ... well I'd like to go anywhere with percussion. I want to raise what's basic. Drumming is the foundation of a live performance, right? And so I think I want to be that strong support for Fatima, even moreso. As far as the band goes, I'd really like to be able to play the piano at a oneman ....
4ge: While gradually undressing? (laughs)
Towa: Right, right, to play the piano naked (laughs). .... Not!! I would really like to be able to interweave a piano performance into a Fatima show.
